With the AAU season over it is time to look back at some of the best players this summer. For me, here is a short list of guys I personally saw play well this summer.
2010
Keith Appling-Mustangs- The MSU committ, did not disapoint in the GR Storm tournament leading his team to the title, seeing him on Friday night and then on Sunday afternoon was like two different players, he knows when to turn it on, he can do it all, and coach izzo has a great one.
Jeff Hoskins- Camp Darrly- Not a top 5 player that I saw this summer, or even 10 maybe, but when he is on, he is on. His semi final game vs the Storm at the camp Darrly tournament was one of the best games, if not the best game, I saw someone have this summer, he was on fire, and could not be stoped on offense, every shot he took went in it seemed
Alex Gurona- Mustangs-Another soon to be MSU standout had some nice moments that I saw, and I know a whole lot more that I didn't. He has a nice touch for a 6'8 big, and is very strong.
Jon Horford-Mustangs- What I saw from him was some good post moves, all over the glass, and the potentional to be a great player. He is long and athletic and once he gets stronger watch out.
Collin Voss- GR Storm- Voss doesn't really need to worry about getting stronger, the 6'7 240 EGR standout is a man child, I don't know why he wants to shoot 3s, because he is a and one waiting to happen down low, strong and more atheltic then he looks.
Derek Jackson- King James- He will be going to CMU in 2010 and I can't wait. Got to see just enough of him in Grand Rapids to hold me over. Can play either gaurd spot, quick, atheltic, good handles and not a bad shot. Also can play some d. I am excited.
2011
Anton Grady-Friends for life- The show he put on in Toledo was amazing. This kid is the real deal, just an athletic freak, every shot they took, I hoped they would miss, just so he could tip dunk again. Can defend, and not a bad shot, not great, but it can go in.
Patrick Lucas-Perry-Legion- If there is a better pg in the state in his class I would like to meet them. He is just a joy to watch, runs the team on and off the floor, gets to the rim, shoots the 3, sees the floor so well, I can't say enough good things about him.
Dwaun Anderson-Parrell 45- I was amazed at how much he improved over the year, I sawe him last summer, and thought, yeah he is ok, and then I see him this summer, and he domiates. He can do it all, inside, outside, everything. Sure he has things to work on, but he is the real deal. CMU is all over him, and the party that I would have if he signed would be big.
Ladonte Hinton- Mustangs- Saw him play with both the U17 and U16 mustang teams this summer. With the U17 he was a nice player, played hard and did some nice things, with the U16 he was a man child, could not be stoped offensively and kept his team in the game. Their game vs friends for life in Toledo was one of the better one-on-one matchups I have seen in a long time between him and Anton Grady. Grady might have gotten the better of Hinton, and friends for life did win, but Hinton has the makings of being a very good d1 college player.. perhaps a wing in the big ten
